All you Girl Mom’s and Dad’s that have the kids with the good hair…I am in awe of how you do it. G, has long, straight hair, that is always in a tangled mess, Always. Full disclosure is that this Mama is not that great at doing hair. Not something I have ever really been “into.” Usually my hair is just down and straight, Mom bun or ponytail. So, none of this stuff comes naturally to me. Over the past two years I have looked for a lot of help on IG and Pinterest. So thankful for these social medial platforms.
To top of this hair mess G is always trying to get it off of her face. So it always needs to be pulled back somehow. Long, flowey hair is a nuisance to her unfortunately. I have tried pony tails, pig tails, covered elastic, small elastic, the small elastic. Don’t even get me started on hair clips, headbands. Oh, we have tried it all. Here is what is working for us. If G had curly hair I don’t even know what I would do. Maybe just pay someone to do her hair.
Washing Hair – Everyday or Every other day?
Personally, I wash my hair every other or every three days. This got me thinking. Do I really need to wash G’s hair every day? Especially, those days when we are just lounging around all day and it didn’t get dirty? Over time I have just come up with an every other day hair washing routine for G unless we were in the pool or doing something that got her hair super dirty. Even then I may just rinse it and add some conditioner to the ends.
Favorite shampoo and conditioner right now are Baby Bum Shampoo and body wash and Honest Conditioner. I have used many different brands on G’s hair and I will probably keep trying new products. To be honest I have not really fallen in love with any particular products yet. So we will keep searching but the products listed are the ones we are using right now. What I do look for is something with out a lot of chemicals and for it to not irritate her eyes. A little hair washing tip that I started doing is not completely rinsing out all of the conditioner. So much easier to comb out when a little is left in. I will say that if a products is Shampoo/Conditioner and Body wash it is not going to really be a good conditioner for long hair . Anyone that has a favorite Shampoo and Conditioner leave me a comment.
Brush Comb or Both ?
As I mentioned G has LONG hair. It is a total pain to comb it. Well, the only way it gets brushed is if I let her watch YouTube Kids which I hate but it works. When G was a Baby and her hair was not as long I used a regular comb but this long hair a wet brush is a MUST. I picked up ours from Target but have used mine, her sisters and they all pretty much work the same. Just as long as it is a wet brush. Tip on combing long hair if you don’t have it. Start from the bottom and kinda hold the section firmly in your hand and comb the portion below your hand. Keep moving your way up. As a person whom has always had long hair I can tell you it does not hurt when you do this and I think gets the tangles out a little faster. A comb is just used for parts but we don’t use it for getting out the tangles.
Depending on what part of the country you live in you will call this something different. Black covered elastic bands are what we use a lot of or these new . Pictured, I have listed the products that we have tried. These tiny bands work great but they are a total PIA to get out. Two ways I remove them are when their hair is wet rub a little conditioner on the hair and pull it out. The second way is I just take a nail clipper and cut it out. These really are great, they blend in with their hair color and work perfect for braids.
Hair Clips and Headband Shops
Garden of Arden has been my little Etsy obsession lately. Check them out and you will understand why. Well, if you and your child hates any type of cartoon or Disney character then you may not care for them. Just our basic clips are just a Target find and I am sure they can be found anywhere.
Now that G is a Toddler I have not been able to get her to keep a headband on. The shop I used when she was younger is Jadabugs. I did find a little shop what gave me the most adorable and simple bow headbands. Maybe she will wear them again someday. Or I will just keep them in my memory box.
Happy Styling Everyone!!! Hope you enjoyed the suggestions.
